A California Highway Patrol officer and another motorist suffered minor injuries in a collision that occurred as the officer was pursuing a speeding motorist on Highway 65 near Lincoln.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, a CHP officer was driving his patrol vehicle northbound on Highway 65 when he saw a black vehicle approaching southbound at a high rate of speed, according to a CHP news release. The officer made a U-turn and attempted to overtake the vehicle.
As the CHP unit moved into the right-turn lane of northbound Highway 65 to turn onto Nelson Lane, a 2004 Honda S2000 suddenly turned right, directly into the path of the patrol vehicle, CHP officials said. The officer swerved to avoid a collision, but lost control of his vehicle and traveled left across the roadway, where it struck a 2006 Honda Civic that was traveling in the left lane of northbound Highway 65.
The officer and the driver of the Honda Civic were taken by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the CHP.
