The southbound lanes of Folsom Boulevard to the highway between Blue Ravine Road and Natoma Station Drive were closed for a portion of Thursday’s morning commute after a fatal single-vehicle crash.

A fatal crash Thursday morning closed a portion of Folsom Boulevard for several hours.

Folsom police Sgt. Andrew Bates said dispatchers received the call regarding the single-vehicle accident about 2:40 a.m. Thursday. A driver was northbound on Folsom Boulevard when he veered into the median and then crossed over into southbound lanes of traffic.

It appears that the pickup rolled before coming to rest in shrubs on the side of the southbound lanes. The driver had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Folsom Fire Department, Bates said.

He died at the scene.

An investigation into the crash backed up the morning commute until Folsom Boulevard reopened before 9 a.m.
