A pedestrian walking on a Regional Transit bridge near Richards Boulevard and Highway 160 died Tuesday night after being struck by a light-rail train.
Alane Masui, a spokeswoman for Regional Transit, said the incident occurred about 6:50 p.m. on light rail’s Blue Line. The male was trespassing, walking along RT’s American River Bridge, which is not designed to accommodate pedestrians, she said.
The pedestrian was struck by a train that was outbound from Sacramento heading toward the Watt/I-80 station. No information about the victim was available. Masui said the coroner was on scene.
Because the collision occurred on the bridge, passengers remained aboard the train until it was cleared to proceed to the next station. She said buses shuttled passengers between the Alkali Flat/La Valentina station and the Watt/I-80 station until the light-rail line reopened at 9 p.m.
