A man who was killed Saturday when his pickup was struck by a Union Pacific freight train was identified by the Placer County Coroner’s Office as David Koppin, 56, of Lincoln.
The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. in the area of Industrial and Athens avenues near Lincoln.
Witnesses said the pickup was on the railroad tracks before the signal bells rang and crossing arms were lowered, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP said the railroad’s crossing warning system was functional at the time of the crash.
The train was transporting lumber from Dunsmuir to Roseville.
