Sheriff's officials say a deputy contacted the man near Cable Road in Camino about 8 a.m. Oct. 17. The deputy struggled with the man before the man retrieved a handgun and fired a shot at the deputy.

The white man, who had a goatee at the time of the shooting, was described as about 6 feet 2 inches and 225 pounds.

He was last seen driving away on Cable Road in a white Dodge pickup truck without license plates. The deputy was not hurt, sheriff's officials said.
