Small fires that broke out in Rancho Cordova near Highway 50 and Zinfandel Drive early Tuesday morning were set by an arsonist.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews first responded just around midnight Monday to fires that burned mostly between a highway sound barrier and backyards. About 10 houses were threatened.
When crews arrived, they could see fences burning, trees torching and an outbuilding ablaze. In all, four or five fires were set within a couple of hours of each other in close proximity.
Metro Fire Capt. Michele Eidam said the fires were intentionally set in several spots.
