Bicyclist fatally struck by car on 47th Avenue

A bicyclist was hit and killed when he rode into the path of a car Tuesday morning in southern Sacramento County.

The bike rider, a 55-year-old man from Sacramento, died at the scene. He has not been identified.

California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Bradley said the car was traveling eastbound on 47th Avenue near 54th Street about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday when the cyclist entered into the path of the vehicle from the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver swerved but hit the bicyclist, throwing him first into the windshield and then onto the pavement. The driver stopped and cooperated, authorities said.
