The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is working to identify the remains of two people found in a cabin in the Garden Valley area following a Sept. 13 wildland fire.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies responded about 11 a.m. to assist the Garden Valley Fire Department on a wildland fire in the 4600 block of Highway 193. While searching the area, it was determined that a residence had burned.
The El Dorado County coroner confirmed that the remains of two people were found inside the burned residence, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Sheriff’s officials said they are working with the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office to identify the remains, and determine the cause of death and the cause of the fire.

The Vallejo Times Herald reported that the residence belonged to a missing Benicia family. According to the newspaper, Adam Buchanan; his son, Gavin; and Gavin’s mother, Molly McAfee, were declared missing following the fire.
