Man draws 18-year prison sentence for attack on girlfriend

A 54-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison in a domestic violence case.

A jury in October convicted Mark Ramirez of domestic abuse and battery causing serious bodily injury. He was sentenced Friday by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Sharon Lueras.

On March 3, Ramirez hit his girlfriend in the head with a sharp instrument, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release. The woman suffered a concussion and gash to the top of her head requiring staples.
