Rocklin police are investigating as possible arson a fire that broke out late Sunday afternoon in a greenbelt area.
The city’s police and fire departments responded at 5:05 p.m. to a vegetation fire in the greenbelt behind 3104 Sunset Blvd. Several witnesses told officers that a man, described as a transient, was responsible for starting the fire, according to a Police Department news release.
During their investigation, officers determined that the fire originated at a homeless camp located along the creek and greenbelt. The fire burned less than an acre of vegetation before it was extinguished by the Rocklin Fire Department.
Investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Rocklin Police Department at 916-625-5400.
