A 23-year-old Orangevale man has been arrested in connection with threatening phone calls targeting preschools and daycare centers in El Dorado County.

Detectives on Tuesday arrested Michael McDermot, who was booked into El Dorado County Jail. Sheriff’s officials said he is suspected of making “terroristic” threats.

Over the past several days, the Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a male calling preschools and daycare centers in the county, and threatening to harm staff members and children. Several preschools temporarily closed as a result of the threats, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sheriff’s officials said earlier that they were not aware of any credible threat and had not instructed any of the preschools to lock down their facilities.
