A driver was killed when his car crashed into a tree on Interstate 80 near the UC Davis campus early Wednesday.
He was identified by the Solano County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office as David Vaughn, 29, of Davis.
Vaughn was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed about 12:45 a.m. near the onramp to northbound Highway 113 when his car drifted off the pavement into a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The car hit the tree on the driver’s side panel. Vaughn was wearing his seat belt and the safety air bag deployed, but the high-speed impact caused fatal injuries, according to the CHP.
