A 52-year-old tractor-trailer truck driver standing outside his rig was killed Friday evening after being struck by a westbound vehicle on Interstate 80 near Davis.
The truck driver was standing at the rear of his vehicle east of the Mace Boulevard exit shortly after 6 p.m. when he was struck by a 1991 Honda Accord traveling at approximately 55 to 60 miles per hour, California Highway Patrol officials reported.
CHP officials said they are investigating why the truck driver was outside his vehicle. Officials said the man, who has not been identified, was killed instantly.
The driver of the Accord swerved onto the right shoulder to avoid hitting slowed traffic, striking the big rig driver, CHP said. The Accord driver was identified by CHP as Jacqueline Torres, 26, of Woodland.
Torres sustained “moderate injuries” and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center, officials said.
The incident remains under investigation.
