A police investigation has begun into the death of a 2-year-old Sacramento girl.
The child, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at a Sacramento hospital where she had been taken by a fire department ambulance.
Firefighter medical personnel first responded to the home in the 7600 block of Teekay Way in Meadowview. The child was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police were summoned to the hospital at the request of the coroner’s office at 10 p.m. Monday.
A police department press release does not say what caused the girl’s death, only that “due to unusual circumstances surrounding the death, homicide detectives arrived at the hospital and began their investigation.”
“There were unusual circumstances surrounding her death, but those details cannot be released at this time,” said police spokesman Officer Justin Brown. “What we are trying to determine is whether her death was an accident or of a criminal nature.”
Detectives interviewed family members. Sacramento County Child Protective Services is involved in the case.
