North Highlands teens die in fatal Antelope crash after driver lost control

Driving into a curve at a high speed caused a Saturday morning car crash in Antelope that killed North Highlands residents Jesus Antonio Soto, 18 and Pedro Ramirez Ortiz, 15, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

The incident occurred on Antelope North Road about 700 feet south of Poker Lane at around 9:41 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses at the scene told the CHP that a 2005 Toyota Scion made a “sweeping left curve at very high speed,” said Jenna Berry, a CHP spokeswoman.

As the Scion entered the turn, Soto lost control of the car and hit a tree. Berry did not say what rate of speed the Scion was traveling when it took the turn. Both Soto and Ortiz were wearing seat belts, and both passenger and driver air bags deployed, Berry said.
