Suspect arrested after threatening to kill 2-year-old son in Galt home

A 48-year-old man barricaded himself in the back bedroom of his Galt home and threatened to kill his young son Sunday afternoon, sparking a standoff with police that lasted 3 1/2 hours, according to Galt police.

The suspect, identified by police as Thomas Kallman, surrendered at about 4:30 p.m. when a SWAT team arrived at the scene after hours of attempts to make contact with the man, said Galt police Lt. Brian Kalinowski. Kallman, who Kalinowski said was intoxicated, was arrested for domestic violence, criminal threats and child endangerment.

Police said his wife suffered minor injuries, while the 2-year-old boy was removed from the home without injury, Kalinowski said.

The standoff began around 1:45 p.m. when police responded to a domestic violence report on the 900 block of Glendale Avenue, according to Kalinowski.

A portion of the street was closed off by law enforcement, but was reopened around 5:00 p.m. when the scene was cleared.
