Alias James McLaughlin, 22, is in Sacramento County Jail, accused of murder in the death of his 3-week-old daughter in May 2013.

According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, his trial has been continued twice and is now set for Jan. 8.

Sacramento Police were called to the UC Davis Medical Center emergency room regarding an infant who had succumbed to injuries. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office subsequently determined that the child died of blunt force trauma to the head.

According to a story in The Sacramento Bee, McLaughlin reportedly was awakened by the infant’s fussing and crying. Provoked by the baby’s behavior, he allegedly picked her up, repeatedly threw her down and shook her. When the mother attempted to intervene, McLaughlin allegedly assaulted the mother as well, police said.
