A: A 17-year-old Sacramento boy was shot to death and three of his friends were seriously wounded when two assailants fired gunshots through an open window of an apartment in the 6500 block of Lang Avenue in south Sacramento County.
According to a story in The Sacramento Bee, the four teenagers were socializing with six other boys at a friend’s apartment when the gunfire erupted shortly after 1 a.m. June 30, 1997. Bobby Hoang died hours later at UC Davis Medical Center from gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen.

Tai Tai Ly, 17, was shot in the jaw, and Hihn Hong Hu and Dieng Ah Kong, both 17, were shot in the arm and leg.
No arrests in the case have been reported.
Sacramento County sheriff’s officials said at the time that they did not believe the attack was random. They said two men were seen approaching the apartment’s rear kitchen window before the shooting began. The assailants then fled.
