A 63-year-old Oroville man has been charged with receiving child pornography.
A federal grand jury in Sacramento on Thursday returned a four-count indictment against Jan Alan Shafer, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office news release.
Court documents indicate that for more than two years, Shafer engaged in conversations of a sexual nature via email and an Internet instant messenger service with an adult who was posing as a 10-year-old boy. During their email exchanges, Shafer allegedly received images of child pornography, including sexually explicit images of prepubescent children.
Shafer was arrested Oct. 30 and remains in custody. He is to be arraigned Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Edmund F. Brennan.
