Suspect in Natomas homicide arrested in Southern California

A suspect in the shooting death of 26-year-old Marcus A. Gonzalez last week at a North Natomas apartment complex has been arrested in Southern California.

Sacramento police report that Dezmon McClary, 22, was taken into custody Thursday morning by Barstow police.

Gonzalez died from one shot to the torso, police said. Officers responded to the 1800 block of Club Center Drive at 8:22 p.m. Oct. 9 regarding a shooting. Sacramento Fire Department medical personnel pronounced Gonzalez dead at the scene.

During a preliminary investigation, police said, detectives received information that two people got into an older model, powder-blue minivan driven by a man. The vehicle was seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting.

Police said Thursday that McClary was identified as a suspect in the shooting.

According to a Barstow Police Department news release, Barstow detectives were contacted by Sacramento police Wednesday night, saying they believed McClary might be in Barstow. Detectives began surveillance in the area where McClary was thought to be and took him into custody at 9:17 a.m. Thursday. They said McClary was believed to be in Barstow because of a female acquaintance there.
