The inmate who died Thursday morning after suffering medical issues at the Sacramento County branch jail in Elk Grove has been identified as 44-year-old Leron Golden of Sacramento.
Golden had been in custody since Oct. 1 on a drug-related charge, according to a Sheriff’s Department press release. He was being housed in barracks at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, which is the custody facility for those sentenced to county jail from Sacramento County courts.
At about 7:45 a.m. Thursday, deputies were told by other inmates that Golden was “having medical problems,” according to the press release. Deputies and medical personnel attempted to save him, but Golden was pronounced dead at 8:54 a.m. Thursday in a hospital.
An investigation into Golden’s death will be conducted. He had no signs of trauma on his body and foul play is not suspected, authorities said.
