A teacher at a Davis junior high school has been charged with sexual battery, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, according to the Davis Joint Unified School District.
The district has initiated dismissal proceedings against John O’Brien as a result of an internal investigation, according to a news release. The district did not include details about the alleged crime except to say that to “the best of our knowledge, the alleged events that led to the warrant for Mr. O’Brien’s arrest did not occur on a school campus.”
O’Brien has been placed on paid leave from his job at Harper Junior High School.
Maria Clayton, a district spokeswoman, directed all inquiries about the case to the Davis Police Department. Police spokesman Lt. Tom Waltz said he could not comment until O’Brien is arrested.

Superintendent Winfred Roberson contacted parents, teachers and others by email this afternoon to tell them in general terms about the pending case, Clayton said.
The district wants anyone who may have additional information in this matter to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
