Two men were sentenced Friday in Sacramento Superior Court for the slaying of a man they lured to their apartment complex after responding to a Craigslist ad.
Superior Court Judge Patrick Marlette sentenced Elliton Varnado to 44 years, and 4 months to life in prison and an additional life in prison without the possibility of parole. Reshay Mott was sentenced to to six years in addition to life without possibility of parole. A jury in October convicted the two men of robbery and the murder of Domenic Lafazia. The jury also found the defendants guilty of two other robberies with the use of a firearm, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release.
On July 7, 2013, Mott and Varnado responded to an advertisement that Lafazia had posted on Craiglist. They subsequently lured him to their apartment complex and attempted to rob him. When Lafazia resisted, Varnado struck him with a gun and shot him in the chest, authorities said. Lafazia died at the scene.
The two other robberies were committed in an around the Stonegate Apartments on Mack Road using the same scheme. Varnado also struck those robbery victims with a firearm, authorities said.
