A motorcyclist died Friday night in a collision near Sylvan and Old Auburn roads in Citrus Heights.
Citrus Heights police responded about 7:07 p.m. to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle on Sylvan Road south of the intersection with Old Auburn Road. When officers arrived, they found a male motorcyclist in the roadway with significant injuries, according to a Police Department news release. Officers attempted life-saving measures until Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead. The man’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the the vehicle was northbound on Sylvan Road and making a left turn into a retail parking lot on the southwest corner of the intersection at Sylvan and Old Auburn roads. The motorcyclist was in the left lane of southbound Sylvan Road when he collided with the vehicle just south of the intersection, police said. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle.

Police said they have not determined whether speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.
As of about 9:30 p.m., police reported that all southbound lanes of Sylvan Road from the intersection of Old Auburn Road were closed. All lanes of northbound Sylvan Road also were closed from Almondwood Avenue to the intersection with Old Auburn Road.
