Divers recover body in Sacramento River at Tower Bridge
A body was recovered from the Sacramento River Thursday morning near the Tower Bridge.
Early reports indicated that a person had jumped or fallen into the water before daylight. John Mohamed of the Drowning Accident Rescue Team said that divers were called to respond to the West Sacramento side of the river at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
West Sacramento police and firefighters were on the scene when divers arrived. Divers were told that the man had gone underwater as officers tried to coax him to swim to shore.
Officers and a firefighter provided the spot where the man was last seen and divers calculated where the man might be based on the flow of the river. At 6:41 a.m., the man’s body was found about 35 feet off the west bank of the river.
