Man slain in Walnut Grove home invasion

A man was shot and killed Thursday morning during a home invasion in Walnut Grove.

Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:30 a.m. to a 911 call reporting that a man had been shot at a residence in the 14200 block of River Road.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tony Turnbull said deputies and fire personnel arrived and found a man dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

He said another man at the home told deputies that there was a knock on the door and two men barged in. The man said he was tied up and at some point his companion was shot and killed.

Although only two men entered the house, which is in a rural area, Turnbull said the man indicated additional people may have remained outside. The intruders fled after the shooting.

Turnball said it has not been determined what led to the shooting or whether the victims were acquainted with the intruders.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 916-874-5115, or Crime Alert at 916-443-4357.
