A car slid off the road in South Lake Tahoe early Monday morning, resulting in injury to two occupants of the vehicle and the death of a third.
The front seat passenger in the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4:30 a.m. crash at Pioneer Trail and Edna Street, according to South Lake Tahoe police. Police identified her as a 21-year-old woman from South Lake Tahoe; her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver and a backseat passenger were flown by helicopter to a Reno hospital.
Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation. However, police said that the sedan was traveling west on Pioneer Trail, just east of Glenwood Drive, when the driver lost control and the car slid off the roadway, striking a retaining wall at Edna Street.
