A motorcyclist died Wednesday afternoon when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed on Madison Avenue in Carmichael.
The crash occurred about 2:27 p.m. as the 39-year-old man was riding a 2005 Independence motorcycle eastbound on Madison Avenue, east of Rutland Drive, at a high speed, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. As the motorcycle entered a right turn in the roadway, the rider lost control and struck the raised center divider.
The motorcycle continued out of control, heading east, and the rider struck a tree in the median. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered fatal injuries from the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
His name has not been released pending notification of family.

CHP officials said it is not known whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
