Sacramento inmate dies in Main Jail cell
An inmate at the Sacramento County Main Jail died Sunday morning while alone in his cell. He was 59 years old.
Preliminary investigations indicated the man had suffered a medical condition that left him unresponsive Sunday morning. Jail personnel tried but failed to revive him. The inmate, whose name was not immediately released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at about 9:30 a.m.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, the man had been in custody for 27 days. He was arrested on Nov. 3 on a weapons-related warrant.
Sheriff’s officials said the death did not initially appear suspicious. An investigation is underway.
