A fatal traffic collision shut down traffic in both directions of Highway 99 for nearly two hours Saturday evening south of Yuba City.
Authorities said the crash occurred near Hutchinson Road. The northbound lanes reopened just before 7 p.m. and the southbound lanes just after 7:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.
At least two vehicles were involved in the accident, and one caught fire with the passengers having to be extricated, a CHP spokeswoman said. At least one person has died and the extent of other injuries in unknown.
The rescue effort involved two air ambulances and two ground units, the spokeswoman said.
