Two men died overnight from gunshot wounds in what Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives were investigating as a double homicide in Arden Arcade.

Sheriff’s deputies found a 43-year-old man with gunshot wounds late Saturday in the 3500 block of Edison Avenue as they responded to 911 calls made shortly after 10 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Tony Turnbull. The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Soon afterward, a 30-year-old man was driven by private vehicle to a hospital with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead there.

Witnesses saw three people wearing hooded sweatshirts flee in a dark-colored compact car near where the shooting was reported, Turnbull said. The car went west on Edison Avenue. Authorities found a handgun at the crime scene.

Turnbull said it was unclear whether the gunmen knew the two victims.
