Placer County seminar to help residents thwart identity theft

The Placer County Sheriff's Office will offer a free seminar Dec. 1 to help residents avoid becoming victims of identity theft.

The class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the community room at the sheriff’s headquarters, 2929 Richardson Dr., Auburn. Reservations are required.

Detectives Scott Alford and Andrew Lyssand, financial crimes experts, will discuss the problems that law enforcement agencies encounter in such cases and how consumers can protect themselves from identity theft, often described as the fastest-growing crime in the United States.

The seminar will include steps to reduce risk of being victimized and to safeguard identity. Detectives also will describe how criminals get information and what options are available to a person who becomes a victim.

For reservations, call Community Services Officer Amanda Rogers at 530-889-6922, or email her at arogers@placer.ca.gov.
