Firefighter burned in Sacramento blaze returns to work
Sacramento city firefighter Alex Galang experienced his first day back at work Monday, 10 months after he was burned battling a house blaze.
He was injured when firefighters responded to the blaze in the Colonial Heights neighborhood about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 12. Galang and another firefighter fell into the basement when the fire caused the first floor to give way under their feet.
A third firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. Galang remained in the UC Davis burn unit the longest.
He hopes to return to full-time duty in January. Galang said in a department video posted on Facebook that it was awesome to be back on the job.
