Q: Did they ever find the person responsible for the shooting and killing of a homeless man this year at the Howe Avenue bike trail?

A: Semaj Shawn Howard, 50, was arrestsd in June in the death of Quincy Lacey, 37, whose body was found March 5 in the area of La Riviera Drive and the Howe Avenue bridge.

Howard is charged with murder and is in Sacramento County Jail awaiting trial. According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, his next court date, for a trial readiness conference, is Jan. 5, with a trial set for Jan. 7.

Sacramento police officers responded about 10:24 a.m. March 5 to the 7900 block of La Riviera Drive regarding a report of an individual who appeared to be dead. They found a man, later identified as Lacey, who apparently had suffered gunshot wounds.

A preliminary investigation found that a report had been received about 11:15 p.m. March 4 of shots fired in the general vicinity of where the body was found. Officers responding to that report were unable to find a victim or evidence that indicated that a gun had been fired.
