Sacramento County sheriff’s officials say an investigation by the county coroner has revealed suspicious injuries that may have contributed to the death of Edward Larson, an inmate at the county’s main jail, on Sunday.
Larson, 54, was found dead inside his cell. Sacramento sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said Larson, who was being held on a sexual registration violation charge, was discovered unresponsive in his cell shortly after 3:30 a.m.
Authorities initially said the death did not appear to be suspicious. But sheriff’s officials announced Tuesday that further investigation at the jail by the coroner revealed suspicious injuries. Homicide detectives responded to the jail and initiated an investigation.
Homicide detectives have forwarded their investigative findings to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for final review, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
