A man was shot and killed in a south Sacramento-area park on Halloween. His name was Robert Nunez. Has anyone ever been charged in his death?

– Anne, Sacramento

Robert Lopez Nunez Jr., a former California amateur boxing champion, was shot on Halloween night in 1994, reportedly by someone in a passing car, as he stood with friends at a Florin-area park.

No arrests have been reported in the case.

According to stories in The Sacramento Bee, the shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. at Churchill Downs Mini-park on Vintage Park and Caymus drives.

Sheriff’s investigators said they believed Nunez took his wife and two children to the neighborhood for trick-or-treating and that he was shot as he waited with two friends in the park for his family to return. Investigators said at the time that they believed two to four males in a dark-colored, General Motors compact car were responsible for the shooting, but no suspects were identified.
