Sacramento police investigate sexual assault allegations involving after-school program employee

Sacramento police are investigating the alleged sexual assault of a child believed to have occurred at Mark Twain Elementary School, 4914 58th St.

The individual worked as the program leader for the city of Sacramento’s START after-school program and also was a part-time employee with the Sacramento City Unified School District, according to a Police Department news release. Police did not name the individual.

The Police Department’s sex assault and child abuse unit is investigating the allegations. Because of the sensitive nature of the case, police said they are not releasing details of the allegations.

The employee was immediately released by the Sacramento City Unified School District and was placed on administrative leave by the city of Sacramento, according to police.

The employee has not been arrested and police said he is not believed to pose an immediate risk to the public. Police asked for the public’s patience while they conduct a thorough investigation.

The school district sent an automated message to parents of Mark Twain students Wednesday evening informing them of the allegations and police investigation.
