A man was shot in front of his house in south Sacramento on Thursday morning.
Sacramento police said the shooting occurred at 9:02 a.m. in the 2300 block of 52nd Avenue. The victim, whose injuries were not life-threatening, was taken to an area hospital, according to Officer Justin Brown, a police spokesman.
James Beacham said he is the uncle of the victim, identified as Chris Merical. Beacham said Merical was walking out of the home to his car when two unknown assailants came up from behind and shot him.
“They must have been waiting for him,” Beacham said, adding that he had no idea why his nephew had been targeted. “He wasn’t in any gangs.”
