The man who died Thursday when the car he was driving collided with a big rig on Highway 99 south of Yuba City has been identified by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff-coroner identified him as Harbans Singh, 69, of Yuba City.
Officer Mike Cantrall, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, said the crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. A car was northbound on Highway 99 near Oswald Road, traveling in the fast lane, as a big rig with a 53-foot trailer was making a left turn from a truck stop onto southbound Highway 99. The big rig was half to three-quarters of the way through the turn when the crash occurred. Cantrall said it appeared the driver of the car failed to slow down before the vehicle collided with the rear of the trailer and became jammed beneath it.
Singh, who as alone in the vehicle, was extricated and pronounced dead at the scene.
