Sacramento State student reports being sexually assaulted on campus quad

A female student at California State University, Sacramento, reported being sexually assaulted by a stranger as she walked across campus Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. on the grassy quadrangle east of Lassen Hall, the Sacramento State Police Department said in a news release.

The victim said she was walking on a dirt path when a man jogged up behind her and demanded her wallet. When she said she didn’t have a wallet, the suspect forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, 20 to 30 years old, who was approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 200 pounds, the news release said. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and had a dark cloth covering the lower portion of his face, it said.

Police are investigating and have increased campus patrols, according to the news release. The department suggests students use the Hornet Night Shuttle by calling 916-278-7260 or contact the Police Department for an escort at night.

The Police Department asks anyone with information to call the dispatch center at 916-278-6000. Callers can remain anonymous.
