South Lake Tahoe police are seeking information on possibly illegal dentistry activities in the community.
Police received “unspecific information” about someone in South Lake Tahoe performing basic dental work without a proper dental office or license, according to a Police Department news release. A check with two local dentists indicated that some people have needed dental repair work after receiving substandard dentistry, possibly performed in someone’s kitchen, police said. Such activity, they said, likely would function as a “cash” business and prey on the vulnerabilities of the poor.
Police are asking public and private groups that help the poor to caution clients against such illegal and unsafe practices. Indigent people in need of dental care may qualify for Medicaid and should travel to receive services from such a provider, police said.
Anyone with specific information about illegal dentistry activities is asked to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530-542-6100.
