Update: Woman shot by robber in Sacramento in critical but stable condition
A woman is in critical but stable condition after being shot on a Sacramento street Wednesday morning during a robbery.
Sacramento police said that the woman was in the 900 block of W Street at about 11 a.m. when a man tried to rob her of belongings. The two struggled and the man fired a weapon, striking her “multiple times,” according to Officer Justin Brown, a police spokesman.
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, police said they believe the meeting was “pre-arranged” and possibly drug-related. Officials said the suspect fled in a white sedan.
The victim was rushed to a hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.
A neighbor who was using a leaf blower to tidy up Wednesday morning said he saw three men hanging around near the corner of Ninth and W streets just before the shooting.
The man, who declined to be identified, said he stopped blowing leaves and was speaking with a neighbor when he heard loud sounds that turned out to be gunfire.
He walked up W Street and saw a woman on the ground. He asked her what happened and the woman answered that she had been shot.
“She’s been shot,” the man said he shouted to a person nearby. “Call 911.”
“The woman said she was having a hard time breathing,” said the man. “I was trying to help her out the best I could.”
The Met Sacramento charter high school and William Land Elementary were briefly in lockdown immediately following the incident.
