Man shot dead at Carmichael apartments

A man was shot dead late Saturday following an altercation at a Carmichael apartment complex, authorities said.

Just before 11 p.m., Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies received calls regarding an altercation in the 2800 block of Walnut Avenue, at the Walnut Wood Apartments, according to a department news release. When deputies arrived, they found a 25-year-old male with a gunshot wound inside one of the apartments. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told deputies they had heard what sounded like a scuffle in the victim’s apartment and then a single gunshot, according to the release. Two males fled the scene in a vehicle, according to witness statements. The victim’s name was not released pending identification of family members by the Sacramento County coroner.
