CHP needs help to find truck that hit, killed North Highlands man
The California Highway Patrol on Wednesday released more information about the death of a pedestrian earlier this week – and asked for help in finding the vehicle that struck him as he walked along a street near Rio Linda.
Samuel Melgoza, 30, of North Highlands was walking along Elkhorn Boulevard, just east of 20th Street, about 4 a.m. Monday when he was hit by a late 1990s Ford Ranger pickup traveling westbound, authorities reported.
It is not clear why the truck hit Melgoza. The driver then drove from the scene.
The pickup has a gray front grille and the grille should be damaged, according to the CHP. The rest of the truck may be a different color.
