A 69-year-old woman died Wednesday evening after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in West Sacramento.
The collision occurred about 5:20 p.m at the intersection of Sacramento Avenue and Yolo Street. Officers responding to the scene found the woman on the ground in the middle of the street, said Sgt. Roger Kinney, police spokesman. He said the woman reportedly was crossing at the intersection, where there is no crosswalk, when she was struck by the vehicle.
Fire department paramedics arrived and the woman was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she died of her injuries. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.
Kinney said the man driving the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigating officers. He said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been a factor in the collision.
