A head-on collision closed Highway 49 near Lake of the Pines in Nevada County on Sunday and led to the arrest of a driver on suspicion of DUI.
The California Highway Patrol said that Rose Apodaca, 28, of Auburn was northbound on Highway 49 near Brewer Road when she allowed her vehicle to drift across the center line. Her car sideswiped an oncoming vehicle before colliding head-on with a sport utility vehicle.
Apodaca had to be extricated from her vehicle and suffered major injuries. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The CHP said in a news release that Apodaca was suspected of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Two people in the sideswiped vehicle and two in the SUV reported suffering minor or moderate injuries.

Highway 49 was closed for about 90 minutes while the crash was cleared.
