A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of homicide in the shooting death of a man this month in Carmichael.
The 16-year-old, who was already in Sacramento County juvenile hall on weapons and drug charges, had homicide charges added by detectives. He is suspected of killing Jonathan McKenzie, 25, of Carmichael.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies received calls about 11 p.m. Dec. 12 regarding an altercation in the 2800 block of Walnut Avenue, at the Walnut Wood Apartments, according to a department news release.
When deputies arrived, they found McKenzie, who had been shot, inside one of the apartments. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told deputies they had heard what sounded like a scuffle in the victim’s apartment and then a single gunshot. Two males fled the scene in a vehicle, according to witnesses.
