Davis police are warning residents of individuals going door to door collecting donations for a program that they falsely claim is sponsored by the city of Davis.
Police say residents have reported being contacted at their homes by people claiming to be gathering donations for a Second Chance Football program. The solicitors reportedly were accepting only cash or check donations, according to a Police Department news release.
Police said the city does not fund programs by sending solicitors door to door, nor does it sponsor football programs.
They advise anyone contacted by people claiming to be raising money for the program not to donate and to immediately call police so the solicitors can be contacted and identified.
