Citrus Heights police are investigating a shooting in an apartment parking lot early Monday that left one man dead and another wounded.
Several neighbors reported hearing shots about 2 a.m. Monday at the Creekside Colony complex in the 7900 block of Kingswood Drive. When officers arrived, they found a dead man inside a car. Two other victims – one with injuries that were not life-threatening – were outside the vehicle.
Investigators said all three people were inside the car when shots were fired. On Monday afternoon, parking space 221 was adorned with blue and red candles and balloons. The words “RIP ACE 64 TILL THE WORLD BLOW” were written in chalk on the ground. No one answered the door at unit 221, where a handwritten “do not disturb” sign had been placed.
“We are still trying to work through the leads we have and certainly are looking for additional witnesses who may have seen or heard anything,” said Detective Wesley Herman.

Herman said police have a possible lead, but nothing definitive.
The apartment complex is off Sunrise Boulevard, a major thoroughfare in the city. Brandon Zylstra, a neighbor, said drug deals and gunshots are commonplace in the area, especially after dark.
“It happens all the time,” he said.
