Sacramento residents may find themselves doing a double-take as the Sacramento Police Department unveils a new educational tool – a taxi cab/police car hybrid.

Police will be using a vehicle designed with the appearance of a taxi and police car combined as part of an effort to prevent driving under the influence by reminding motorists to make smart choices and to plan ahead.

The vehicle will hit the streets starting this week. It will be used as an educational tool at events including DUI checkpoints, Start Smart teen driver training, Every 15 Minutes programs and the Know Your Limit Campaign.

Funding to outfit the vehicle and for the Know Your Limit program is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
